Crime stats for Obs - we have a right to know!

Dear Barry
You campaign for the release of monthly crime stats has my full
support (Obslife February 2010, page 2). We surely have a right to
this information! As Secretary (until recently) at the monthly ONW and
Sector 1 meetings I can testify to the frustration at not being
allowed access to the actual figures for the various categories of
crime in Obs (Sector 1). It should be noted, however, that Woodstock
SAPS have their hands tied - they are merely following instructions
from above (ultimately, from the Minister).
I hope your your campaign will also be publicised in the Argus and
the Cape Times and the Mail and Guardian, and that relevant NGOs
(IDASA and Lawyers for Human Rights, for example) are notified - their
support could be important. I am sure other Obs residents are right
behind you.
