regarding the product comparison earlier...
Be careful. The list of features on the 8" includes field tripod, eyepiece and controller, etc. - but the ad title says "Tube Only" ...... so it isn't clear what you'd get from that vender.

Thank you!
I just read a glowing review of the Celestron NexStar Evolution 8 in the current issue of Astronomy magazine. Do you have an opinion on how the Meade 8” LS-ACF compares to the Celestron here?:

I've seen that scope before... and looked through them. First, let me say, there's really nothing at all wrong with that telescope. It is a fine scope and Celestron is known for quality optics.
Second: It is an 8" which is sort of my minimum aperture.
Third: It is a Schmidt-Cassegrain which I like.
However... I am a fan of Meade. They're pretty cutting edge with their "advanced coma free" (ACF) technology. Too, I like their hand-controller menu sustem. I have seen no difference between Meade and Celestron optics except that Meade also has UHTC coating that increases reflectivity. So, for the same price range and aperture, I would prefer the LX90 series. I have an older one without the ACF and no GPS and, still, even lacking those features, I love it. The BIG-FOOT is my LX200-14" monster but that's an entirely different class and price-range. For what we're discussing here... I prefer the LX90.

or...
or here with an equipment package...
Again... just to maintain some balance here... there's nothing at all wrong with the Celestron 8". To each his own, right?
At least all this will contribute to your deliberations.
