Hello all
I have just taken R2500 from the sale of meal coupons at Spar to
Loaves and Fishes.
Since the scheme started in August 2007 L & F have received R22 375
from the sale of meal coupons at the Spar. If handed out as cash, much
of this money would have found its way into the tills of local bottle
stores or the pockets of local drug dealers. By giving responsibly the
community has made a real contribution to the welfare of people living
on the street.
I would like to thank the OCA for helping to initiate this project and
thanks to the Spar for very efficiently handling the sale of tickets.
Their willingness to participate has ensured the scheme's
success. Thanks also to Postnet for subsidizing the cost of printing.
Thanks of course to Loaves and Fishes for providing the hot suppers
that must be particularly welcome in winter.
But most of all thanks to the community of Observatory for making this
scheme work: your R5 coupons have collectively added up to quite a
considerable sum.
And Thanks to Obsid who have agreed to take over the management of
this scheme -- as part of their commitment to social upliftment.
Finally, an appeal. Through the concern of Rosemary Robins, the Obs
library has become increasingly important as a distribution point for
meal coupons. Rather than hand them out yourself, you may prefer to
donate coupons to the Obs library, who will ensure that they are
handed out responsibly. They have currently run out of coupons and are
having to turn street people away.
Best wishes
Rob
