Hi all.

I'm finalising an old experimental bouzouki build, and my plan was to use a 4-hole pin bridge, with two strings per hole, as I could not fit 8 pins over falcate bracing.
I know this has been done by others without (afaik) any negative effects, apart from the need to remove 2 strings when a sting breaks.
The strings will be spaced via notches in the saddle.
Not having much experience making a pin bridge, how should I go about cutting the string grooves in the holes? If I cut 2 grooves, I don't like the weak, thin wood between the strings.
Should I just cut one wide groove to take 2 string?
Also, any advice for cutting the said grooves in terms of their angle? How deep is too deep? What's the logic behind grooved pin holes vs ungrooved holes?

Thank you very much.

I did this with my 12 string. I made two notches in the pin hole. My notches were at 1 and 10 o'clock (a line between the center of the hole and 1 and 10 o'clock or perpendicular to the tangent at 1 and 10 o'clock). In any case I blogged that build and you can see the pictures some where on this page: https://www.harvestmoonguitars.com/angel12string2.htm.

I described where I got the design from on the first page of the block: https://www.harvestmoonguitars.com/angel12string1.htm

Thank you very much. Do your notches go all the way through the soundboard, so each string sits in its separate slot? Essentially, you use the hole to insert the ball end, and then slot each string into its groove, then insert the pin?

Yes the the two slots are just like the normal slots in a bridge pin hole so each string is in it own slot. I did find instead of finagling two strings I would insert one string push the pin in and pull out then insert the other string and the pin.
