Hello,

This year's ICBO tutorial focused on collaborative workflows and their importance for the development of OBO ontologies. As part of the workshop we were granted a gift by the International Society for Biocuration of 500 swiss Francs (CHF), which we are using in two ways:

  1. Huuray.com gift cards for the winners of our Training life quiz

  2. Winner of this year's community challenge (a 1-Year subscription to an AI-assistant of your choice, up to $200 USD).

The winners of the Training quiz are divided in two groups:

  1. Engagement (those that answered the most questions)

  2. Correctness (those that answered the most questions correctly)

We first assign vouchers to the top 5 participants with the best answers, then to the top 5 most engaged participants (excluding any winners of the first category).

This year's winners in terms of correct answers are:

  1. Hannah (13 correct answers)

  2. John G (12 correct answers)

  3. Bryan Laraway (11 correct answers)

  4. Sumir Pandit (10 correct answers)

  5. Umasri Sankarlal (10 correct answers)

This year's winners of the engagement awards are:

  1. Harshad

  2. Yvonne

  3. Katie

  4. Spencer

  5. Lauren

Congratulations to all 10 winners for a $30 USD gift card to https://huuray.com/

The OBO Community Challenge 2024

As a reminder, for this year's OBO Community Challenge, you are asked to join an OBO ontology project of your choosing, and complete a set of tasks (including opening and issue and a pull request). We will evaluate your contribution to the ontology according to the basic principles of collaborative workflows we introduced you to as part of the tutorial such as the quality of your commit messages and issue and pull request descriptions. The winner will receive a 1 year subscription to an AI tool of choice, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Co-Pilot (up to 200 USD). Details of the challenge can be found on GitHub: https://github.com/OBOAcademy/obook/issues/508

Thank you all for participating! We enjoyed this year's OBO training with you all and are thankful for your participation! The recording is now available.
