The University of Florida College of Dentistry Department of Community Dentistry and Behavioral Science is currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher to maintain and assist in developing several ontologies. These ontologies include the Ontology of Dental Fear and Anxiety, Oral Health and Disease Ontology, and Pain Ontology. The researcher will have a key role in a U01 grant funded by the NIH Office of Data Science Strategy’s program for Accelerating Behavioral and Social Science through Ontology Development and Use. In addition to ontology development, the researcher will be expected to attend conferences and actively participate in writing manuscripts. 

 

This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher to grow their career. You will work with experts in the areas of fear/anxiety, pain, dentistry/oral health, as well as other ontologies.

Role Details

 

Requirements

  • PhD, MD, DDS, or equivalent degree
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team 
  • Understand or be willing to learn concepts involved in dental fear and anxiety, pain, and dentistry
  • Assist with data analyses of secondary/primary data

 

Preferred

  • Experience with biomedical ontologies
  • Background in bioinformatics, oral or other healthcare, and/or biomedical sciences
  • Background in psychology or other behavioral science
  • Knowledge of W3C standards (e.g., OWL, SKOS)
  • Experience with ontology tools (e.g., Protege, Topbraid, ROBOT)
  • Programming experience
  • Experience in working with and managing databases
