if anyone wants to read it, use this link:
http://whitebiocentrism.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=461&p=733
the link provided highlights some words throughout and looks AWFUL.
it has a lot of unsourced claims, including that Objectivism considers smoking a moral obligation (false, comes from Rothbard).
and finally, at the very bottom, a link:
http://archive.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard23.html
oh.
quoting thousands of words with the source only at the bottom is completely unreasonable. it's pretty much plagiarism, effectively, because it gets people to read stuff while being mislead about the author. It's not OK to have thousands of words of other people's writing with no indication except for the fraction of people who get to the end get to find out in retrospect. (And it doesn't even say the link at the bottom is a source or anything, it just puts the link. I figured it out immediately due to prior familiarity with this stuff.)
The source first quote second format, as used in email, is way better.
Anyway Carolina Reb if you have something to say, say it. Got an argument? Got a criticism of some point? Got an interesting explanation of something? Write it. Just linking a long anti-Rand thing with no comment whatsoever is not productive discussion. Why are you linking this? What do you want to talk about? Which parts interest you? What problem(s) do you think this essay solves, and how?
PS on skimming through again i found it was multi-source. some is from:
http://www.toqonline.com/blog/a-sense-of-life-ayn-rand/
god fuck the author for the extremely misleading approach to quoting.
and this post is so bad, even sourcing stuff at the top wouldn't work well, b/c it'd go:
attribution
wall of text
easy to miss attribution
wall of text
and no one would be suspecting that attribution in the middle exists. to make this work well would require, say, blockquoting the quotes with different background colors. Or some introductory text explaining what the author is doing.
the intro text is a good idea anyway. and anyway why not just provide 2 links and leave out the copy/pasting job??
