Hi Jeff,

We're trying to estimate the effort of migration our application from Java 8 to Java 11 runtime on Google App Engine.

We're currently using Objectify 6.

Can you confirm Objectify 6 is battle-ready to work under Java 11?

Thanks,

Jeff Schnitzer

I've not personally tried the GAE Java 11 runtime (for a variety of reasons, my apps are still stuck on Java8), but there's absolutely nothing in Objectify v6 that should care one way or another. It's just vanilla Java. I personally wouldn't hesitate to deploy it straight to production.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Hopefully you're right.
What do you think about this Google's doc, where Objectify referenced on the page with a red warning:

I'm not sure what App Engine APIs does Objectify use under the hood (if at all), so if we're all good may be it's worth asking Google to clarify this in regards of Java 11 runtime specifically?

Cheers,
Dmitry

That page is a bit confusing - the Java8 runtime (and with it the APIs that Ofy5 relies on) will be going away someday, but Ofy6 is built on the new Java google cloud libraries they recommend as an alternative.
