Ummm, yes, eventually the APIs that Objectify5 uses will be deprecated and shut down. My guess is that you will hear about it in the form of "the Java8 runtime is being shut down" since the Java8 runtime is the last java runtime that supports those APIs.

I do not expect to hear this anytime soon, however. I'm still using the Java8 runtime.

I read that Objectify 5 uses the old google cloud SDK while objectify 6 uses the new one.

What exactly are the version numbers of the google cloud SDKs that Obj 5 and 6 use? Is there a link to the updated google cloud SDK?

Is the google cloud SDK that objectify 5 uses at threat of being deprecated?

Should we migrate from objectify 5 to 6?

Ah ha. What do you mean you are still using the Java8 runtime? For objectify 5 and 6? or just in general coding?

I mean my current company relies on the GAE Java8 runtime and several of the old-style APIs. We could migrate but it would require some effort and the ROI would be low. That may change in the future.

I imagine though, when/if the Java8 runtime is being shutdown, that it would be a huge migration for all customers across the google cloud platform. Do you think it would come in stages or would we have a big heads up to anticipate it?

I really have no idea what to expect, except lots of lead time.
