Distributed Objects vs. Web Services

At a cross roads and trying to decide if the language should be extended to support distributed network objects or focus on web services. While adding support for network objects is a natural extension of the language the popularity of distributed frameworks such as RMI, CORBA and DCOM have decreased drastically over the years.

As an alternative, I'm looking to develop frameworks for web services architectures and protocols such as RESTful, JSON and SOAP.
