Former official who served as sheriff in 7 counties has died

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - J.M. "Buddy" Phillips, who served as sheriff in
seven different Florida counties during his long law enforcement
career,
has died. He was 69.
His family said Wednesday that he had cancer and died Tuesday.
The Live Oak native had been sheriff of Charlotte, Columbia, Flagler,
Glades, Lake and Pasco counties. He was elected sheriff in Suwanee
County in 1968 and served 14 years as president of the Florida
Sheriff's
Association.
A funeral service is scheduled Friday in Tallahassee. The funeral
home
says there is no listed cause of death.
