The Bonner Springs developer who wanted to bring a tornado tourist
attraction to Wyandotte County has died.
Thomas M. Overby, 61, was found dead Sunday of an apparent accidental
gunshot wound, according to police.
Overby was active in economic development in downtown Kansas City,
Kan. He and his wife Diane Overby, through the Kansas Landmark Tower
LLC, had been pursuing a tornado monument in Edwardsville.
The project had a setback in October, however, when the Kansas
secretary of commerce rescinded a provisional offer to help fund it
with nearly $72 million in STAR bonds.
Diane Overby plans to continue with the project.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Alden-Harrington
Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs. Funeral services will
follow at 7 p.m.
