The funeral will be Thursday for Chad Daniel DuShane, who was killed
Sunday when a tree crushed his car in Spring Lake.
DuShane, 26, was killed while he and his fiance, Kathleen Veronica
Tyer, of Fenton, were driving west on River Street at about 2 p.m.,
just as a thunderstorm swept into the area. A tree fell on the car,
killing DuShane. Tyer was not seriously injured.
In his obituary in The Press, DuShane is remembered as a leader who
cared about people.
"Chad displayed patience when teaching others and had charisma that
his friends and family so enjoyed," the obituary reads. "He was always
prepared with a 'comeback,' and he enjoyed finding a bargain. Chad was
caring, nurturing, helpful, and loving, and he admired and followed
his older brothers and their examples."
DuShane was a 2000 graduate of Spring Lake High School and a 2005
graduate of Grand Valley State University.
Family members said he loved golf and had earned awards for his
accomplishments in tennis and soccer.
DuShane's survivors include his parents, Albert and Nina DuShane; and
his brothers, Matt DuShane, of Spring Lake, and Carl DuShane, of
Allendale.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at VanZantwick
Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. The funeral will be 11
a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spring Lake.
