Hi

Just wanted to see what is the best approach to do cross subject area
queries in OBIEE 10G-

I know in Answers we can do union reports as well as filtering based
on another subject area's reports. Both these seem limited.

For true cross subject area querying we tried calling OBIEE Answers
using Brio through BI ODBC and that works fine. Downside to this is
the data needs to be loaded into the local laptop in Brio and then the
join happens.

Are there any other ways within OBIEE that I'm missing? Are there any
nice tools and or methods to do this?

Any experiences on this will be helpful.

Thanks

I think you will have to set up a new Subject Area by pulling in the
appropriate presentation folders from the subject areas of
interest.

When you say "cross subject area", I suppose that you talk about
conformed dimension query.

You have two way to do that:
- by creating one subject area with your dimension and all fact table
that you want
- by simply sending a multiple subject area query. The BI Server
understand fully the ansi sql 92, then you can use it to query
mutliple subject area. I have made an example previous week for a
forum question but without a lot of explanation. Here you are:

In 11g, I have seen a Multiple Subject Area feature, I suppose that
it's the same method but with a answer GUI enhanced.

Hi Nico,

Thanks!

The second way is on the lines of what I'm thinking and while we did
that using Brio, using SQL might be a good way to go as well as the
querying happens on the server. I will try it out.

Nico,
Regarding the second option, what methods have you tried for "sending"
this multiple subject area query? How are the results returned if you
aren't using Answers/OBI Analytics to submit the logical sql?
