Dear co-authors:

Here is the latest version of the biocollection ontology manuscript, currently slated for submission to PLoS one.  I feel that another round of review is necessary, because there have been substantial changes since the last version. These changes were largely aimed at making a stronger case for the development of the BCO, and making the background section clearer and easier to follow. A new "future directions" subsection has also been added to the discussion. I think these revisions were well worth the effort, as they make for a much stronger manuscript.

There are specific questions for a few of you in the comments (John D., John Wooley, John Wieczorek, Stan, and Rob), so please have a look at the comments.

If there are any changes, please send them to me using track changes in Word. Comments or suggestions you can sent in the document or via email. Please do not suggest changes that would cause a re-ordering of the references, unless you think they are very important - I am getting tired of renumbering!

Thanks everyone for your patience in dealing with this manuscript. I hope this will be the last draft you have to look at.

Ramona
