Where is Kota Kinabalu?
Kota Kinabalu is situated in the tropical island of Borneo and is the capital of the Malaysian state Sabah, which is one of the two states of East Malaysia. Set between lush tropical hills fronting emerald green waters-vibrant and exciting yet serene and uplifting, what with its eco-treasures from top to bottom and the South China Sea. A great place for HASHING!!
Kota Kinabalu is also affectionately called KK by the locals. Known as 'The Land Below The Wind' because geographically, it is below the typhoon belt. Formerly known as Jesselton before its name was changed to Kota Kinabalu in 1967. The three million population of SABAH is as diverse as its ecology. Comprising of a colorful mix of 32 ethnic groups and other non-indigenous people - they are all interwoven by culture, tradition, marriage and language. The result is the face and dialect unmistakably SABAH.
Sabah sits at the tip of Borneo, the world’s third largest Island, washed by the South China Sea on the west and the Sulu Sea and the Celebes Sea on the East. A land blessed with natures most bountiful treasure. For more info on Sabah visit www.sabahtourism.com for their post and preamble tour...for those interested.
