Where is Kerala?

Fittingly christened God’s own country, the charming southern state of Kerala is a tourist’s delight. Kerala has an abundance of natural beauty and culture. This serene land is a charming blend of miles of golden sands and soaring mountains kissing the clouds, all embellished with an emerald green touch. Thiruvananthapuram is the state capital; other major cities are Kochi (Cochin) and Kozhikode (Calicut). The backwaters, beaches, Ayurvedic tourism, and tropical greenery are among its major attractions. National Geographic's Traveler magazine named Kerala as one of the "ten paradises of the world" and "50 must-see destinations of a lifetime"!

How to get to Kochi, Kerala, India?

Air Asia: Check out the website: www.airasia.com

Silk Air: Check out the website: www.silkair.com

Other International flights that connect to Kochi are: Tiger airway, Emirates, Gulf Air, Air Arabia, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Air India, and Qatar Airways.

Overseas Hashers:  we would recommend arriving on 8th Oct instead of 9th Oct.

The first international airport in India to be built without Central assistance, it connects to all major Indian cities and select foreign destinations. The drive from airport to the city takes less than an hour.

Visa Requirement

Indian High Commission in your country is the right place to acquire your tourist Visa to India. The Embassies or Indian High Commission and Consulate General of India will be happy to help you get a Visa to India.

Ø  Please carry your photo ID with address. This is a statutory security requirement to check into any hotel.

Ø  Foreign Nationals, along with your original passports, carry a photocopy of passport front page + Indian visa ready with you.

Where do we stay?

* * * 50 rooms are available each at Bolgatty Palace, Kochi & Tea County, Munnar.

The first 100 registration will be put up in these 2 hotels; hashers over and above that will be accommodated at hotels nearest to the main venue.

Ø  Bolgatty Palace Island Resort, Kochi: this heritage resort is the oldest Dutch Palace existing outside Holland. Built by Dutch traders in 1774, it was leased to the British in 1909 and served the British Regency until 1949. The palace became state property and was later converted into a heritage hotel resort.  Bolgatty Island Resort, just off Kochi Marine Drive, is an island of calm right in the heart of the bustling city. www.bolgatypalacekochi.com

Ø  Tea County, Munnar: The hill station of Munnar is a picturesque little town cozily nestled amidst two hills, with its picture-postcard valley, quaint cottages, fragrant tea gardens and mist draped mornings. Discover the best place to watch the mist rolling down. Munnar is located 6,500ft above sea level on the eastern border of Kerala - with winding lanes and miles and miles of lush green tea plantations. www.teacountymunnar.com

Ø  Houseboat, Alleppey: Alleppey (now “Alappuzha”), is known as the Venice of the East. Kerala has a long structure of water-body called backwaters, formed by the crisscrossing of 44 rivers flowing across the state. The backwaters known to be existent centuries ago, connect the remote villages and cities of Kerala. It used to be the main Trading route among the villages and is still a source of livelihood for many villagers. The large wooden houseboats, called “Kettuvallams” have one or two bed-rooms, a small sitting room, dining and kitchenette and are manned by a three member crew. The food cooked on board is local cuisine and served hot. The houseboats cruise along the shallow, palm fringed lakes and narrow canals.

*** Houseboats- some Hashers wanted to know if they could stay longer on the houseboat after the event. Do mail us at mexvar...@gmail.com with your dates – we could negotiate special rates for you.
