Hi all, do you guys use Time Warner or Verizon? I heard Verizon is
optical wired and is cheaper? Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks.

absolutely agree - we had so many problems with Time Warner - they're
totally incompetent AND couldn't care less. that's a lethal combo...
we still have Road Runner/TW but planning to switch to FiOS asap.

Agreed. I have fios in manhattan now. Switch from twc, paid the
cancellation fee, and couldn't be happier I did. Like most things
verizon, the technology service level is excellent (and the customer
service is miserable).

We have Fios. However our apartment was only wired in one place.. The second bedroom. They had to drill a
Hole from the bedroom into the living room to get the connection. Did anyone else have this issue?

After calling fios and spending some time with a nice rep, she said
that they come in and hook up only what you asked for meaning that if
your apartment has 3 outlets and you ordered cable and net they will
only activate two jacks. If in the future you want another cable box a
tech will need to come out and it will cost you 80$ for him to come
out and hook up the box. She said to ask the rep nicely to activate
all the jacks, and when you need a cable box they will ship it out to
you - basically your saving 80$.

She said to make sure to know where you want the cable modem as it is
harder to move b/c it needs to be reconfigured - which in part is
true.

FIOS uses fiber optics and fiber optics is basically a glass cable
and uses light and different wave lengths to work. So cable and net
work on two different wave lengths. So you need to configure the modem
to work on a different wave length so they configure your jack to work
on that wave length. - basically if you want to move it from a to room
b you need tech to come out and it will cost you 80$.

Elizabeth,

Well after seeing some apartments i noticed that they are not wired to
be "wired" meaning they don't have it wired for a wired home network.
They are all assuming that you will use one room as a home office for
your desktop and then run cables all around.

Here im assuming that either your desktop or your laptop does not have
wireless network. For either one you could have gone to a store and
got a wireless card to put in to your computer/laptop.

Yes you might need to open up your computer and install but if your
fine with that its all good, or you can have your tech friend do it
for you. Warning though if your computer is under warranty and you
open it you will void it.

Any who long story short - instead of drilling a hole could have
bought a wireless card for your desktop/laptop. Might cost money but
might a lot cheaper then having that wall patched up.

Hope it helps

We actually do have wireless computer. I was talking about the tv setup. We wanted to be able to set it up on a specific wall but b/c the apt was not wired in all areas it can't be done unless we run the usual cable wire along the floor and around the HVAC units :(

O, well ya that is not good, maybe run the wire behind the base
boards, but then you need to pull them our route out a channel put in
the wire and put them back.

in other hands a hole is a lot cheaper then remodeling for one
outlet. :(
