Agreed it would suck but that one hold out as part of the Atlantic Yards eminent Domain buy out got $5mil for his dump. This is just part of the brainstorming process about what NY state can do but I can't imagine the state buying up all those homes and destroying part of the neighborhood. On the other hand if they built a tunnel for the bqe and the current highway becomes part of the promenade that would be amazing. Its just a little posturing right now but it does suck that its even being discussed. You can get more info on Brooklyn heights blog.com

The NYS DOT project lead said that they had to at least draw up this schematic as part of their process for any highway, but that it was impossible to ignore the social cost and are taking it off the table.
