I'm happily settled in!  For those of you who already live here can you shed a bit of light on:
dishwasher- Mine has a funny smell, which we noticed at the walk thru- Suzanne said it was normal and would go away- but having done many washes it hasn't- Did anyone else have this issue?  I can certainly stand my ground with the building if need be.  Also, has anyone figured out how to make the dishes dry?  They are super clean but pretty wet when done.
washer- Is a normal cycle to wash really an hour and 40 minutes or I am doing something wrong?
Thanks!

Same concerns here- our dishes do dry but we do have a smell from dishwasher. We haven't figured out how to address yet.

And length of cycle on washers is extremely long- We have resorted to using delicate cycle which uses colder water but only a 40 min cycle. I have to say my clothes have come out just fine.

Agreed on both points. My dishwasher leaves everything clean but damp... And the washing machine wash cycle is so long. Also the AC units are very effective but so loud... Nitpicking here but still...

Hi, agree abt AC... Haven't used W/D yet, can't break my drop off
habit.
With dishwasher - i leave the door open after it's done - there is a
lot of steam coming out but in 20 min or so, - dry dishes and no
smell. I try to air it out once in a while, - open it before i leave
for work and close it once i'm back in the evening. is this abnormal?
i've never had a dishwasher in a multi unit bldg...
AC - i can't say mine is super effective and i agree abt the noise. i
am getting used to it, but still... anyone found a remedy? perhaps a
different setting or something?

We've tried a couple of different things to get rid of the smelly dishwasher and damp dishes, but have not had much luck. Any leads on how to fix the problem would be great.

What kind of dishwashers are in the units? Do you think it's because the machines are shoddy or the installation?

Hey guys,

About the dishwasher - Aaron, it is the Bosch dishwasher. Based on
what I read from the internet, it is one of the top dishwasher
machines out there. About the smell, Jonathan, mine did not have a
smell but then again, it could be because I just did not pay too much
attention. As for the dampness, I did a bit of research on the
internet when I first moved in. You could either use a dishwasher
rinse agent (you probably notice that the "Rinse Agent" button lights
up, right? Or you can do without the rinse agent, you just leave the
dishwasher on (even after you have heard the "beep" sound). And your
dishes will be perfectly dry. This is a trick that I learn on the
internet. Here is what I typically do, I turn on my dishwasher just
before I go to bed, and then the next morning, the dishes will be dry
and clean (and no smell).

As for the washer, it is typical for a front-load machine to take a
long time. I used to have a Miele washer (which is supposedly a top
range washer) in my previous rented apartment and it actually took
even longer time. However, no worries about how the long washing time
will cause on the electricity bill - I have been told that it is
supposed to be energy and water efficient. I will know when I get my
next electricity bill. :)

I agree though the airconditioner is too noisy. But after 2 weeks, I
am pretty used to it now.

The attached forum discussed the Bosch and other similar dishwashers.
You will note that a few did complain about the smell and the dishes
not being dry. So it could be a known issue with Bosch dishwasher.
Hopefully, the remedies mentioned in the blogs helped alleviate the
smell and the dampness issues.

We had the same issue. I was also disappointed that the dishes were still wet. We have to leave the door open a little after the cycle to let everything dry and also helps with the smell (stagnant water).

Where is the nearest super market around OBBP besides Trader Joe's?

We use the Finish Jet-Dry Turbo Dry Drying Agent. It helps a lot,
although if you wash plastic stuff, it doesn't always fully dry. My
guess is that the plastic stuff doesn't get as hot as the glass and
therefore water doesn't completely evaporate from the surface, but
just a guess.
