Dietrich where are you at with this? Today is sort of empty for me
(aside from a meeting this afternoon), and so I was going to play with
getting the feed harvester hooked up to the message panel. Cool? Or
are you already on working that?

If so, I'll just start chipping away at making it look pretty.

Go for it! There's still a bunch of refactoring work to be done in the
message panel. The twitterfox code is vomit-ous. I'd like to keep the
code and datasource (eg: obama-specific stuff) as separate as
possible. I'm auto...@gmail.com on gtalk/jabber if you have questions
or wanna rap about this stuff.

Quick update: Earlier this afternoon Dietrich and I thought it would
be cool to roll out an initial version that brought in feeds from the
Democratic Convention (Twitter, Blogs, Youtube, Flickr). The idea is
this would be a great tool for bloggers at the DNC and for those at
home who want to follow the event. This could also do wonders to
evangelize the extension and get feedback. (I believe Twitter became
super popular @ a conference!) We can then switch it back to regular
mode after next week.

Dietrich updated the extension already - so we're pretty much set.
Karl and Alaa - awesome updates and fixes!

I updated the todo list with small stuff. Karl - Can you update the
"x" -- see notes. There is a lot of buzz on Twitter - 70 (and
growing) followers and C-SPAN wants in!

We're rockin' and rollin' !

all the DNC data is in there now, including a special background
image. all that needs to be done is to enable those tabs, by switching
the tabVisible property for the right tabs on and off :) i'm back
offline for a couple of while now, cya! -d

Hey guys,

Awesome work on this extension. I love using it (especially, the
Flickr DNC feed). I think, for the DNC version, you should remove the
notification alert cos it seems to show up at random times for me. And
we need to release the DNC version quickly !

Anyways, I have a suggestion that we might want to include after the
DNC, maybe. I thought it'd be nice to show a better icon for each item
rather than the same "O" icon. For example, for the Twitter feed,
we'll show profile image of the person who tweeted it. This prevents
every feed from being monotonously similar. To implement this, we can
just add another property to each feed that tells the extension where
to look for the images in the feed and then, when the items are being
displayed, we try to display the specific icon whenever it's
available. This "feature" would make it easier to distinguish and
browse through the images and news. What do you guys think of this?

Cheers,
Abi

we sort it out.

A bit late - But I am excited to introduce Abi to the group!  Abi has worked (and works) on some awesome projects - included a recently crowned runner up @ the Extend Firefox3 Contest (Devo,) and Ubiquity - a Mozilla Labs project.

Welcome Abi! :)

I am about to head to a coffeehouse and then will followup with stuff it would be awesome if we could clip ASAP - to launch today.

(Basically - the stuff in red on the todo list)

Will follow up soon -- Abi, Alaa - I know it's late by you but I appreciate any help you can squeeze in to get this out there. -- Joe

Hi Abi,

Welcome to the group.

Joe,

I think we're good to go. I addressed some points in the todo and
cleaned it up a bit. I'll be online for about another hour or so in case
you need anything.

that'd be hot. the feed preview infrastructure in firefox supports
this, but the stored feed data in the livemarks service doesn't have
this yet :(

for example, i looked into doing the dnc flickr feed as thumbnails,
but there's no easy way to get back to the enclosure data of feed
items.

in the twitter example, could rig some ajax calls to get the icons on
demand, but it'd be pretty resource intensive.
