Dietrich - I know your journey's about to start - Can you update the todo list w/a breakdown of what you think it would take to implement the news update feature.  Then potentially Karl and Alaa - maybe you guys could split up the load.  What do you think?   - Joe

I'll be out of reach starting this afternoon till tomorrow evening. I
looked at the alerts code. What else does it need? I am not sure you can
style it to look like the mockup.

I'm not a programmer - Can you tell me what's possible?  What does the news update feature currently look like?

I also updated the to do with, I think, relatively small tweaks - fixing html entities and adding an "x" button would be awesome to launch with as well.

Attached is what it currently looks like. This is on Ubuntu, a GNU/Linux
distribution.

~From what i remember; You can only customize the icon that shows up
there. Its only meant as a notification and will differ according to
platform. You can also make the text inside the text respond to clicks.
