minor rewrite

just wanted to give a heads-up that i rewrote some of the code so that
tabs/feeds can be dynamically loaded and configured. tab titles are no
longer localized, so need to fix that still. these changes are now
pushed. take a look, most of the changes are pretty straightforward.
