Hi all,

Since we're now heading into warmer weather (hopefully drier weather
soon, too!) and the season to get outdoors more, I thought I'd post
info on a casual bike ride that's coming up in June.

The Patuxent Rural Legacy Ride is really nice. I did it a couple of
years ago and enjoyed it. It's being organized by the Oxon Hill
Bicycle and Trail Club (http://ohbike.org/events/index.htm#june13).

Here's some info:

Saturday June 13 Patuxent River Rural Legacy Ride Merkle Wildlife
Sanctuary, Croom, MD.

24, 46, or 62 miles from the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary, with rest
stops at Mt Calvert, an 18th century manor house, at a beach-park
where Magruder’s Ferry once crossed the Patuxent, and at Eagle Harbor
in a shady yard overlooking the Patuxent. Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail
Club's annual ride to showcase Prince George’s County’s Patuxent River
Rural Legacy Area, where farms, wetlands, and woods are being
protected from development with Maryland’s Rural Legacy Program. $15
pre-registration or $20 on day of the ride includes after-ride picnic.
Proceeds benefit Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary.

Online registration at active.com.

Hope we can meet up soon for some activities!

Cynthia,

Have you guys already registered for the June 13th ride yet?
Do you plan to do 24?46?

They say there will be food after the ride, I wonder if we could ask
them to have something vegan?

Also, the weather looks nice this weekend.

Anyone is up for a group ride? perhaps join an existing group ride so
we could do a bit of OA advertizing?

Here is what Baltimore bicycle club has http://www.baltobikeclub.org/index.pl/schedulea

p.s. As some of you know we had an awesome time running 5K for poplar
spring, and unofficially took the first place (officially second) as a
non animal rights organization team .They had PCRM, HSUS, PETA, HLB
and other teams. Overall we would have been #4 not to far from the
third place. We raised close to $700
for the animal sanctuary, and we made our presence known with nice OA
gear and athletic performance. That felt great! Hope more people could
join us next time!

Hi Vlad,

Unfortunately (or fortunately, since it's a mini vacation), Scott and I will be out of town the weekend of the Patuxent ride.  Hopefully you and/or others can make it there 'cause the scenery is nice.

Sadly, I remember the Patuxent post ride food was like hot dogs and ice cream, or something non-vegan like that.  I think their vegan option(s) were fruit.  Can't remember, since I did this ride 2 years ago.  Maybe they'd be open to adding something vegan if someone asked.  Or, at the very least, it would get it in their heads to do that next year, right?  Even though I won't be riding, I'll drop them an email asking/suggesting.  You should too--the more, the better.  :o)

I'd like to try one of those Balto bike rides soon too, although I doubt I'll be able to swing it this weekend cause I'm hoping to make it to Poplar to help out on Sunday morning--Donna's meetup group is going, if anyone's interested.

Thanks for the info--they sound like great rides!

Cynthia
