Dear colleagues of
Roland,
I'm writing this to let you know of the very sad news of the
sudden death of Roland on Sunday after a very brief illness
which turned out to be an incredibly aggressive form of
cancer. The department is in complete shock, and all our
thoughts are with his wife and two young daughters at this
time. He will be missed by everyone and words cannot do
justice to the loss that he will be to both our scientific
communities, and those of us who also knew him as a friend.
I'm sorry for the news, and having to send it via e-mail. I'm
doing my best to contact people who he worked with / was
working or was planning to work with, but i'm acutely aware
that people will be missed as Roland seemed to work in a
multitude of disciplines. I'd be very grateful if the news
could be slowly filtered around the both the sea-ice community
(CASSII and MOSAiC groups) and atmospheric chemistry (iCACGP
and SCOR)
with great sadness
James France
