Please look at the rulebook before asking questions.

Hi All!

I've been receiving some questions, sent to me personally, from folks
regarding how things will run during the competition. In all of the
cases thus far, I've referred people to a specific part of the rulebook
(generally in a section that shares the same keywords as the keywords in
their question). I don't want to paraphrase the rules in answering these
questions and potentially introduce confusion so at this point I'm just
answering with "Please see page XYZ of the rulebook".

If people have questions of a rulebook-like nature, I ask that you
please do a keyword search of the rulebook, available from
https://rrl-rmrc.org . It has also been the subject of considerable
discussion here on the mailing list over the past few months so I'm sure
many of you are already familiar with it.

If, after consulting the rulebook, you can't find your answer, or if you
have a question, request for clarification, or suggestion for amendment,
please post to this list. I am the first to admit that the rulebook is
far from perfect and if there are clarifications or changes to be made,
it is vital that everyone sees the same information. I don't want to get
into a situation where one team has different information than another
team and then there's a mismatch in understanding at the competition
(especially as I won't be there).

If you have questions that are not suitable for the public forum (e.g.,
they are of a more administrative nature), please send them to
in...@rrl-rmrc.org and not to me personally to minimize the probability
that it gets dropped.

Cheers!

Hi All!
I still have a question about the new rules, more specifically the linear rails and sensor crate, because there are example photos for the soft foam cylinders but not for the rectangular prisms, that are also possible and i was wondering if these will be at this years Robocup or if there will be the standard soft foam cylinders and if there are the prisms this year, if there is a photo of them. Also i wanted to ask how the new sensor crate will look like at the Robocup as there is no direct picutre of it aswell.

Best Regards

Hi Philipp, All,

Note that all of the photos in the construction guide and rules are just for example/illustration. I've not been provided with specific photos of what has been constructed and procured by the LOC (including the sensor crate and manipulation objects). I can ask for some but I understand that everything is packed up for shipping already so it probably won't be possible until everyone arrives at the venue anyway.

Of course, I could build and take some pictures (e.g., for the manipulation objects, I would just take a piece of scrap 25 mm thick insulation foam sheet and cut 25 x 100 mm rectangles out of it with a utility knife, for the sensor crate I would just take one of our blue crates, put a sheet of printed paper in the end, and put the magnet test on the bottom) but they will be just as (un-)informative as the renderings in the construction guide as they won't match what the LOC has procured.

More generally:
- You can expect that the apparatus will be compliant with what is described in the construction guide.
- You will need to be prepared to handle any apparatus that is compliant with what is described in the construction guide.

Of course the specifications are not black-and-white, things are open to interpretation and it's possible that there may be some discussion at the venue about if adjustments need to be made but I encourage you to focus on the specification to avoid overfitting to the specific implementation.

Cheers!

Raymond
