Hi There,
I would like to know what is involved in being in a Linux User Group?
I have small I.T business that I run based out of Layton.  I do a ton of Linux stuff but need to get to know more.

Thank You,
Shane Rose

Shane,

To answer your question I would have to refer to the old adage about
you get out what you put in. By this I of course mean that to get the
most out of a Linux user group you have to me involved. This can be as
simple as being active on the mailing list, to attending meetings, and
sharing your knowledge. I can speak from experience about not getting
anything out of a Linux user group because of no active involvement on
my part, but I hope to change that in the coming months.

The short answer is simply as much or as little as you want. :)

The long answer is that the group benefits as a whole as members
participate; an active group is an interesting group that draws new
members. This group is run entirely by our members on a volunteer
basis.

Some things that are helpful are to join in the mailing list
discussions; attend meetings (even if the topic isn’t interesting to
you since a lot of the value of meetings is from the socializing that
happens before/during/afterward); volunteer to present on topics
you’re familiar with (or want to learn about); pass along job
opportunities of interest that you hear about; show up for the
occasional installfest or community outreach project.
