Hey everyone!

As of right now, I don't have a next meeting planned. My personal goal before the end of the year is to present one more time, but in the meantime, is there anyone who would like to present, or who has an idea for an activity we can do?

Thanks for the support!

I can present on something, though what might be the question.

I have been fiddling a bit with an openstack deployment using some old HP EliteDesk 800 G2 minis I got from University Surplus, but I don't think I would be ready to present on it. That might be more inline with a September presentation.

I've done some wireguard stuff in the past, though I just bumped into tailscale and that could be interesting once I figure it out.

I've recently done work with OctoDNS, CloudFlare and Github to 'GitOps' DNS. That might be the thing that I could throw together the fastest.

Also when kinda matters since I won't be available most of next week.

Also if anyone has done LLM hosting, NextCloud or a self hosted password manager that would be interesting for me.

I've been self-hosting a Bitwarden server for a couple years that I could speak to. Not enough content for a full meeting, but I'd be happy to tag-team with someone else. Or I could combine that with a broader presentation on my experience of de-Googling over the past several years.

Thanks for the responses!

Mike,
The OpenStack topic sounds awesome! A September meeting would be great. Just let me know what date works best for you and I'll get the library scheduled.

I'm currently using Tailscale in my homelab and loving it, although I wouldn't call myself a power user just yet. I know it is built on wireguard, but besides the fact that it is supposedly very secure, I know little about it.

Speaking broadly, I think it would be really cool to have a presentation about zero trust architecture, and I know for a fact that a number of co-workers of mine who are going to need to take the CompTIA Sec+ exam in the near future would likely be interested in attending that kind of meeting. Food for thought.

As for the self hosting of LLMs, that was the first meeting I did for OALUG back in April and I would be willing to do it again, but maybe after some more time has passed. I also need time to gather new material to present.

Seth,

Recently we did a project night where a couple people presented on stuff that they have been tinkering with. The general consensus is that people want to do another project night and your Bitwarden server would be a good candidate for that. If we can find someone else to do a mini presentation for a project night, I'm inclined to schedule another project night. Alternatively, a general presentation on de-Googling would also be very interesting. Let me know if you have a preference for either meeting type and we can start working towards making something happen if that is alright with you.

No preference! Whatever works best for the group.

Personally I'm leaning towards a full presentation on de-Googling. Would sometime in October work for you?

Yes, October works. Do we have a fixed day of the month or just meet whenever? (I'm busy the first week of Oct. Otherwise Weds tends to work best.)

We haven't been sticking to a specific day. I'll try and get us scheduled for the 15th if that works for you.

I got us scheduled for Oct 15th @ 6:30 at the Roy library. Our normal room was already taken, so I had to schedule a different one, but I'll make sure to advertise how to get to it.

What description would you like me to give your talk besides De-Googling? Got any specifics that I can add to the calendar and the website?

Let's go with:

An adventure in De-Googling.

Interesting findings along that journey, alternate hosted services and costs, how to convince the family, tips to limit online tracking afterward, and self-hosting tips for Bitwarden, file backups, and other media.
