Dear Oakland Wiki:
I’ve lived in Oakland since 2004, founded Salsa by the Lake in 2007, and am now a parent of a child in kinder at our local OUSD school, a home-owner (and recently a landlord), and business owner in our awesome community.
My main work is consulting with public education reform organizations, principally Educate78, which funds school redesign and development, teacher voice initiatives, and parent-supporting policy advocacy all oriented toward closing equity gaps across our city. I used to work in OUSD.
There is no good public education digital archive that tells the rich, long, and sadly tumultuous history of not just OUSD but all of Oakland K-12 public education. We’ve been cobbling together what is, but we’d really like to create a site that could serve as a part curated/part crowd-sourced and very parent, student, and educator friendly and visually engaging online chronology.
Any ideas or experts to connect me with in this regard? We’d like to explore pulling together a little “business plan” for something like this and then get it funded.
Thanks!
Isaac
