Hey wiki people!
We're having our general meeting again tonight at Sudo Room! Come by and talk with those of us who went to the
Internet Archive on Tuesday, and the future of the Oakland Public Library conference last week! We can also talk about our upcoming Temescal branch edit party:
Recent Immigrant Communities.
A few of us went to the archive for a screening of the "
Lost Landscapes of Oakland" by local historian/archivist Rick Prelinger.
Home videos of Oakland during WWII, aerial footage of the construction of BART, corny public service announcements on how to cross the street, and more! We also got to say hi to Rick, who has an
incredible history library that is open to the public. Maybe we can peruse his collections for an SF-based editathon? I also got to speak with Brewster Kahle, founder of the Internet Archive. He's excited about Local Wiki and digitizing stickers (including ours). I'm going to be going back on Friday at noon to chat more during their weekly open lunch!
Wanna join?
Marina and I were invited to attend the future of the library conference last week. Lots of buzz around a potential library makerspace and the partnership with Oakland Wiki that y'all have been working on. :] Let's talk about this and how the edit parties are going at our meeting tonight!
