Damn... it's going ON in June y'all. You just don't know... yet. See,
every year since '99 Oakland has proudly sent a team to represent The
Town at The National Poetry Slam. Each year The Oakland Slam, and each
of their Bay Area counterparts, hosts a competition - "The Battle of
The Bay" (or B.o.B.) to further hone their formidable skills and
strategy. In addition to the '09 squad holding it down against the
best of the rest of the bay Thursday's event will feature some of
Oakland's favorite poets from the last ten years on the Oakland Poetry
Slam (10 YEARS!!).
And it doesn't stop there!!! not even close... check out all the FREE
stuff going on:
The 2009 Oakland B.o.B. also coincides with another thrilling Oakland
celebration - Uptown Unveiled - the city's GRAND OPENING of The Uptown
Arts & Entertainment District. The B.o.B. will feature the home team
smashing on their local rivals (as usual) inside the beautiful,
historic Fox Theater!! Be sure to get there early because outside The
Fox the FREE festival will have 3 stages of LIVE music, GREAT food for
FREE from Oakland's of the finest local restaurants, Art
Installations, Skateboard Contests and mch, MUCH MORE... including the
bumpin after-PARTY!!
Activities going on FOR FREE starting at 5:00 p.m. include:
-Tours of the newly renovated Fox Theater
-FREE Food provided by local restuarants
-FREE Ice Skating lessons in the Oakland Ice Center
-Amazing Skateboard Trick Competition
-LIVE Music on 3 Stages
-Art Installations by NIMBY and The Crucible
-Street Performers
-FREE VALET PARKING & Shuttles
