Coming up in December we have THREE fabulous shows for you! First, on
Thu Dec 9th is The Oakland Poetry Slam & Open-Mic featuring 2-time
Grand Slam Champ Joyce Lee & Revolutionary Poet Tongo Eisen-Martin.
We'll also have up and coming stand-up comic F.L.O. in a spotlight
set.
What can I say about Oakland's resident Slam Champion Joyce Lee that
you don't already know? She's dynamic, didactic and diva-tastic! On
stage she's an open book you couldn't put down if you wanted to. Joyce
will have you alternately rollin in the aisles and fuming under the
collar. Recently she's been a fiercely funny and friendly ambassador
of the Oakland arts scene taking her talents on tour across the U.S.
In 2011 Europe gets their turn.
Joyce's co-feature for the evening is revolutionary brotha and extra-
tall scholar Tongo Eisen-Martin. This poet, MC, producer and teacher
might be found anywhere from his classroom in an SF charter-school to
a cell-block near you. Either way he's teaching folks too much of our
society thinks can't be taught. Tongo has performed in poetry cafes,
colleges, and detention centers across the country and it's our
pleasure to bring his fire to our Oakland audience where we already
don't have no love for the man.
As always we'll start the show off with the Wide-Open-Mic where we
welcome local comics, poets, musicians and artists of all stripes to
the stage to get their creative rocks off all over our audience. The
open is hosted by High Decibels front man Dre "Duke Bossman" Johnson
and will feature a spotlight set from nationally known freestyle/
battle MC turned stand-up comic F.L.O.!
Now -that- is a whole LOT of Show, you'd have to be a little slow to
miss it.
Next, on Thurs Dec 16th is the FIRST Oakland COMEDY Slam & Open-Mic.
You thought the poetry Slam was fun - wait until you get a load of a
COMEDY Slam. Confirmed COMICS for this show are Caitlin Gill, Jamie
DeWolf, F.L.O. & Chris Storin. Finally, for the LAST show of the YEAR
(Thurs Dec 23rd) we give you not only a Slam but a Holiday Poetry
PARTY! The TEAMS competing in the slam represent The Berkeley Poetry
Slam, Tourettes Without Regrets, The SF Poetry Slam & Experimental-Mic
and Life Sentence. Check the event link below for more details but
plan to come shake a tail-feather with your favorite poets.
