We will also be raising money to support a SUSTAINABLE RE-BUILDING OF HAITI
The country has been in a major crisis, and it’s not just financial. With impending climate change, rates of diabetes skyrocketing, and mass national poverty, it’s evident that broad-scale change is needed. While each issue requires its own work, there is one unifying factor, one place that we can all make better decisions, one thing that through which we can reach all of our nations ills, and one thing that throughout the ages has brought people together time and time again....FOOD!
The food system is connected to all forms of industry, from transportation to finance to media, which also means that it impacts our environment, educational system, crime, and international affairs. Creating a just food system will change the way people around the world live entirely for the better!
Go Live, an initiative of Our Power of One whose mission is to obliterate poverty through the harnessing of creative energy and buying power of communities, and The Real Food Challenge, an emerging coalition of like minded organizations teaming up to create a more just food system, have come together to launch a mass public education campaign around the power of a real food system, appropriately called GO LIVE: REAL FOOD. Our goal is that every person and institution from the corner store to the White House, from a mother in the middle of the country to the urban teenager on the coast of California, will be empowered to take back control of the food system. We will do so through a colorful and culturally relevant campaign full of music, art, dialog, new media and of course lots and lots of GOOD REAL FOOD!
The first stage of this campaign will include a performance/lecture tour of university campuses and community centers to gather youth support and action. While on this tour we will also produce smaller happy hour events that we call the GO LIVE $1 parties..... think the Fela Compound and Harlem Rent Parties... NO TALKING HEADS...NO PANEL DISCUSSIONS!!!!
