"A SUCCESS STORY
We are often asked what is the role of Neighborhood Watch? The role
of Neighborhood Watch is to enhance the livability of our
neighborhoods. This is accomplished in many ways, unique to each
neighborhood. In some cases it is helping elderly neighbors with yard
work, or providing a Block Home for the safety of neighborhood
children, or watching out when neighbors are away from home.
Neighbors that take care of neighbors, watching out for each other.
An example of this type of neighborhood support was found in the Oak
Hills Neighborhood Watch last month.
Neighbors in Oak Hills noticed several suspicious fires in recent
weeks. One fire involved the Oak Hills Elementary School. Members of
the Neighborhood Watch were taking their morning walk when they
noticed flames above the roof of the school. They immediately called
9-1-1. Fire crews arrived and put out the fire. The sheriffs office
responded to assist. The Neighborhood Watch coordinator was notified,
and put out information to keep everyone informed.

The fire was contained in a garbage dumpster with minor fire damage
to the school's kitchen door. Several neighbors called the fire
marshal to provide more information to assist in the arson
investigation. Congratulations to Oak Hills residents and special
thanks to Mary Dunn, Marcy Goulet, Pam Buckles, and Gail Willeke for
your commitment to your neighborhood."
