There's an OHHA website at http://myohha.org/index.htm, and it has an
online forum.

Would it make any sense to just use one forum or the other?

The problem with it is those messages don't get delivered to your
inbox. You have to check the web site. Now consider what that
implies if you use dozens of forums. Combine this with the fact that
the OHHA forum has no mechanism for tracking what you've already read.

If you use mailing lists instead, you just check your inbox. You'll
see all the messages form all the lists you've subscribed to in one
place.

This mailing list has an online archive, which is functionally
identical to a forum. So, using this system, I can have email, and
you can have a forum, and we both see the same messages. AFAIK,
there was no way to make the OHHA forum do that. It's probably
because many forum operators (the other customers of whoever OHHA is
getting that service from) make money from ads, which you don't see
if you don't visit the forum.

Basically, forums are good for advertisers, but mailing lists are a
lot less hassle (fewer things to remember to do) for users.

Oh yeah, my mail program has a spell checker. The OHHA forum
doesn't. Most forums don't. It's actually pretty hard to implement
in a forum, and if they did, they'd each have a different one anyway.

About that earlier spell checker reference ...

The previous message was posted to oakh...@googlegroups.com via the
Google Groups web interface, which *also* lacks a spell checker.
Apparently I can't get by without one.
