Is there anyone else that might be interested in getting together to
discuss putting a dog park in Oak Hills?
I'm afraid I think this is a terrible idea. I am a dog owner. I walk my
dog every day and while most dog owners are responsible, a small
minority are not. Siting a dog park in Oak Hills would invite a bigger
mess than we have now. Maintenance already stays pretty busy with
mowing; they really should not be expected to have to clean up dog
messes as well.
There is no area far enough from homes to be acceptable. I would hate
to have a dog park just over the fence from my home. Some exhuberant
dogs love to bark about their excitement. Flea issues have to be
considered. The few times I have visited a dog park with my dog, he has
come home with fleas every time. Fleas can - and no doubt would -
migrate to bordering yards. Then of course there would be the odor
wafting over the fence.
Finally there is cost. I would object to Homeowners dues being used to
pay for costs associated with a dog park (fencing, clean up, extra
costs associated with mowing); but charging a fee means that some sort
of key system would have to be included and who will administer that? I
have heard that our volunteer board members have occassionally been
phoned at 6 am by residents who have misplaced their tennis court keys
and want to play. (The tennis key system had to be installed because
residents were having a hard time getting a court due to the large
number of non-residents on the courts.)
Sorry, I think a dog park is a bad fit for Oak Hills.
