Greetings Campers

I provide my traditional kit list below.

PLEASE BRING CASH TO PAY FOR CAMPSITE FEES - £5 PER PERSON PER NIGHT

Getting there

We are at the bottom of the main field, on the right.

Site preparation
Wayne, Steve and I will head down at about midday on Friday. We'll set up the parachute area so we can all hang out together whatever the weather.  Any Friday daytime helpers will be much appreciated.

Outerwear
Even though sunshine is guaranteed, bring decent waterproof jackets for the you and for the kids.   I've camped with kids in continuous pouring rain over several weeks, and the ones with proper waterproofs didn't have a care in the world. Mud pies galore. Bring warm tops (esp for the kids) for when it gets dark.

Warmwear
Fleeces, warm hats for nighttime.

Footwear
Wellies are good but crocs / flipflops are fine too - the main thing is to have footwear that doesn't soak up water and stay cold and wet.  If you do bring wellies, bring more socks than you could ever imagine needing.  If you plan to use the axes, please bring sturdy boots.

Nightwear
Even though it will be warm during the day it could get a bit chilly at night. If you are cold, you won’t sleep and you won’t have fun. An insulated mat / inflatable bed are a must. One good sleeping bag (i.e. comfort rating of around or below 5 degrees) or 2 rubbish ones are recommended, but in 2 pairs of warm pajamas everyone should be snug. Bring a blanket or two if you want to play it safe. Silk sleeping bag liners add a fair amount of protection from the cold.

Tents
You’ll need one of these.  I plan to sleep under the stars in the hammock again - thoroughly recommended if anyone has one to bring along, though you will be woken at first light by pesky kids swinging you back and forth.

Food and drink.
Lunch and Dinner food is sorted. Please bring your own plates, knives, forks etc.

Bring your own breakfasts and snack foods and enough booze to account for the fact that there will be little to do for 4 days other than lounge around with a drink in your hand watching kids go feral.  Champagne for breakfast, beer for the morning, wine for the afternoon, spirits for the campfire.

Sharon and Malcolm will make Saturday night cocktails, Jacqui and Billie will make Sunday night cocktails

Wood and Cutting Equipment
Camping needs fire. Fire needs wood. Wood needs cutting and chopping.

I'll bring splitting maul, a medium axe and kids axe and a bowsaw.   If you have any wood you need to get rid of, bring it along.

Children? With Knives? Are you mad?
I'll bring a cache of knives, but I won’t be handing them out willy-nilly. Instead, I (and other experienced adults) will run some whittling and axing workshops on Sunday afternoon. Sturdy boots are required for axing.

Other stuff
Large cooking pots and gas burners will come in handy.  Rope is always useful. Every child will want a torch when it gets dark.

Toiletries
If you think they’ll help.
