各位：

Google Chrome 自從推出 Beta 以後，100 天過去了，

然後，Google Chrome 1.0 正式版發行了：

其中，在 Chrome 裡睇 Embedded video 有延遲、疾下疾下的情況已有改善。

另外 Javascript 方面的速度表現，比初版時有更大改進。

[按] iPhone browser/Safari 跟 Chrome 一樣是使用 open source 的 WebKit

 ( http://webkit.org/  ) 作為 browser engine，相信以後的 Apple/iPhone browser 更新，也將會受惠。

或者，OLPC 也可改用 Ephany/WebKit 也不奇怪:

很難說, 因為現時 Chrome 的介面對 MS Windows 的 WTL [Windows Template Library] 套件有 dependency（雖然 WTL 也是 open source 的）:

其實 Safari 也是用 WebKit，所以，它們的分別，在於介面前端和 System Process 的處理－－事實上，Google reverse engineer 咗 Windows XP, 並使用一些 undocumented API 來開發和加強 Chrome 的安全性：

If anything, Epiphany/WebKit is an easier goal with more realizable results - and taking the enhancements to WebKit from Chrome.

Dear All:

The reason for asking Chrome to support on Linux is that I found the Firefox 3.0 become slow, eat up more computer resource ( CPU , memory) and unstable in linux ( i.e. Hang) ( I am running Ubuntu 8.04) . However , it seems works better in Windows (Bill Gate platform) than Linux . Too bad for linux friends like me.

However , we only have one Browser ( most workable) working for Linux - Firefox.

I do not feel comfortable on Firefox 3.0 ( see above reason) but have no other better choice.

Swiftfox is a clone of Firefox but fine tuned for specified CPU.

I used it before. It is almost same problem on swiftfox for 3.0 version.

I think , Firefox has a lot of plugins but they did not have better control on the QC of those plugins . Most of the plugins were not signed. It may be one of big reason to slow down and hang the Firefox .

Official Firefox build at Mozilla.org used an earlier version of gcc for binary compilation, while Swiftbox has made use of a more update gcc toolset.

That being said, a minimalist Firefox in many cases should be rather stable.

You will need to remove all the previous configuration files at the location ~/.mozilla to have a clean, fresh installation of Swiftfox functioning, otherwise it will just inherit the setting from your previous installation of Firefox.
