My kids think they wrote the "Stuck in 1985" song about me - I keep telling them that I am really a child of the 70's.

Dream on...

Dream on...

Dream on...

Dream until your dreams come true...

My daughters think I'm an alien or a crazy old man. The older two are
deeply disturbed when they like the same music that I do or, even
worse, when I start listening to something they bring home (I have to
say the the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill might make my top 25 "discs"-
I hope that's not what you would call rap). Never heard this song but
I clearly need to check it out.

I managed to trade most of those high school records in college,
probably for pennies, at various used record stores for mostly
forgettable 80s stuff. Heaven knows what happened to the 8-tracks.
For some reason, I haven't felt the need to replace the long gone
vinyl of Boston, Kansas, Aerosmith, Nazareth or Ted Nugent with CDs
much less MP3s. I still have a couple of Bob Seger cds and Bruce
Springsteen but in college I fell in love with all that stuff that
was out there but don't remember hearing in high school plus every
note that John Coltrane ever played. I'm also on my fourth or fith
copy of Astral Weeks.

I guess my favorite lyric from the 70s (although technically it might
have been written in 1969) was probably never heard in our beloved
school:

"Etty in the room a cry

Mama say she must wipe her eye

Papa say she no fi foolish

Like she never been to school at all

It is no wonder

It's a perfect pander

While they were dancing in that bar room last night.

Johnson in the room afret

Uncle say he must hold up him head

Aunty say she no fi foolish

Like a no time fi him wedding day

It is no wonder

It's a perfect pander

While they were dancing in that bar room last night.

One pound ten for the wedding cake

Plenty bottle of cola wine

All the people them dress up in a white

Fi go eat out Johnson wedding cake

It is no wonder

It's a perfect pander

While they were dancing in that bar room last night.

..But they were sweet an' dandy, sweet an' dandy,

sweet an' dandy, sweet an' dandy

They were sweet an' dan-deh… sweet an' dan-deh"

Very sweet. I'm hoping to talk my daughters into playing it at their
weddings--may that not be any time soon.

Jerry's message, start to finish, should serve as an example to all of us.
Let's all be careful to not drink and email.
They were sweet an' dan-deh... sweet an' dan-deh"

Just water. I swear. I'm not a teetotaller but close enough except
when I'm in Ireland or France (that would just be wrong). If you
don't have a copy of the soundtrack from THE HARDER THEY COME, you
should acquire one with all possible dispatch. Just be careful you
don't become a Rastafarian. I've heard that U.S. Grant had a fondness
for island music.

Why the hostility to music about weddings?

Hey MAC!!!

Any way to get a hold of brother Bob? I hear he has moved on and I
haven't been in contact with him for a couple of years. Can you be of
any assistance?
