For those of you who've never been to New Orleans, "Yat" is the term for natives of New Orleans.
My mother now lives in Mississippi about forty miles from the coast (everything fine) and I was in New Orleans this past spring and had the wonderful pleasure of spending an evening outside of the French Quarter or the Garden District up near the City Park in an old Italian and Irish neighborhood near Bayou St. John. Beautiful old houses and huge trees. Graceful old parochial schools. My wife and I had the best dinner we've ever had in the US at a local Creole restaurant, Lola's, that was full of locals every night. We arrived early and sat with a bottle of wine outside for nearly an hour waiting for some other couple to finally tear themselves from the place, but it was more than worth it. I hope that it is still there. We loved the area so much that we even took the kids back to a neighborhood Italian restaurant where the food was great and the people were as funny and sweet as you could imagine. Then to top it all off, we went to a traditional Italian ice cream place that seemed like it was from another century. Everyone had that strange New Orleans accent that sounds nothing like a southern drawl. It really was magical.
It would be a miracle if any of this is not inundated right now. If you're the praying sort, give a thought to the Yats.

Words can't express how horrible I feel for those poor people in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Each day the news gets worse. I can't even imagine how they must be feeling or what they are going through. Dave and I would encourage everyone to pray for these people. Pray for strength to get through this time. Pray for comfort, patience and peace.
