I bow to Julie's math prowess, but I agree completely with her 9 email
accounts/8 members theory. And I think I remember who used the two
accounts, because I noticed when it occurred in a couple of email threads.
Unfortunately I'm relying on my memory, which is never a wise method for me
to use.

I also bow to Julie's IT prowess (after all, I AM just a County Employee),
because after a quick look, I don't know how to see a list of accounts OR
members from our group. Hence my need to rely on my memory on this one.

If anyone's wondering why I'm chiming in if I don't know what I'm talking
about ... Julie asked.

As creator and master of the Universe....I mean "owner"/facilitator of
this list, I can positively confirm that there are nine persons in
this group so far. Now, one of our dear friends has thus far not
spoken. Diffidence is not a barrier to membership (sorry Julie I'm
incurably sesquipedalian--I suspect it will be fatal). I didn't
notice the use of two addresses immediately myself so I don't think
you need to risk some avian malady or indigestion just yet. Crows
ain't worth the trouble to cook.

What kind of dog was Kavik? Personally I think Labs might be superior beings.

BTW. Steve, LA is just a county like Tokyo is just a village. Must
have a larger budget than many nations. Can't believe they give it an
.org domain. Is .incrediblycrazyandtoobig already taken? Or perhaps
.nomoreroomforanythingbuthighways? I've been to LA and San Diego a few
times in the last year and had to take a taxi to find a decent place to
run, though that was only a couple of life-threatening-freeway miles
over the hill. In much of Chicago you can reach the lakefront path
without ever leaving a park. Could you fix that please?

Kavik was a shepherd mix and in my experience Labs are sometimes very hyper and stupid. (sorry)
Now...the breed of my choice is a German Shepherd. Very intelligent, fearless and protective, although sometimes can be stupid too. Isn't that right, Julie!

Oh no, must have been a mistake. I swear that "Stan" understood every
word I spoke and was a great running and swimming partner (except
when he tried to get me killed by leading me on to ice at the edge of
Lake Michigan- just because he liked to swim with the ice bergs didn't
mean I wanted to). No experience with Shepherds but they do appear
calmer than Labs. I would bow to your greater experience but loyalty
to Stan requires me to defend his breed.

I'm sure "Stan" was a fine dog. Every once in a while a good lab comes along. They probably have to have all that energy for hunting and fishing birds out of lakes.

No, I've never been around any K-9 dogs.  I have a lot of respect for them, though.  While I have no contact with them, I do read internal reports from time to time that mention their training or work and it's pretty impressive.

 

As for personal dogs, I've never owned a dog before.  But on President Grant's birthday of 2003 after our celebratory lunch, we went to a pet store to buy rabbit food, and we stumbled across a bunch of dogs that were rescued from various bad situations.  There was an 8 week old Lab/Weimaraner mix who instantly took possession of us.  Then suddenly I became a dog person literally overnight.

 

Lulu is rather hyper, very fun, extremely loving.  Although Gary and his son Justin might have different opinions.  Lulu likes to bark LOUDLY at any strangers and she takes awhile before she'll show her playful side to others.  Lately she's decided that she likes to be a lap dog.  At 70 pounds, it takes a pretty healthy lap to accomodate that.

Actually, I would agree with that if you would complete the sentence: "...extremely loving of her family." If you happen to be a guest of the family, then you will learn what it must feel like in that split second before a dog rips your face away from your skull.

I agree with your choice Cindy, I must admit I love my Shepherd. Even
though he cowers in fright at the sound of thunder, last night he let
out his "Do NOT mess with my family!" bark at this guy walking down the
road (we live in the country). It was dark out and freezing no less so
we wondered why he was there. Glad to have my sweet but protective dog
en guarde. Hubby is fonder of Siberian Huskies though. Seems we've
gone back and forth over the years. I think Steve should try a cat
next, you know, to be more well rounded. Meeeeoooowwww

Hey I''ve often been out in the dark and freezing when running. I
love the dogs that bark so long as they don't chase. I've never been
bitten (yes I have kicked a couple) but a St Bernard out in the
country towards Swayzee nearly gave me heart attack a couple of years
ago. Thank goodness for invisible fences.

Still, one of the funniest things I've ever seen a couple of dogs do
was on a long run in the country over in the general direction of the
quarry. Two rowdy teenage dogs decided to follow me outside of
Converse one early morning. I was training for a marathon and was
going 20 miles. The silly animals nearly killed themselves following
me. Dogs are fast but they can't handle the heat. The really funny
thing however was when they tried to corner a cat in a bean field. I
saw their heads bobbing up and down in the field then all of the
sudden they both jumped straight up in the air. The cat had had
enough. Might have been funnier because of the haze of endorphins
that starts to mess with my sanity after about 17 miles but I would
have given anything to have got it on film.

It's all about the Subject Line. Some of us don't ever change a Subject Line so the thread goes on forever into whatever direction a writer takes it. Some others of us see the Subject Line as an opportunity to express a little creativity and then (sometimes inadvertently) start a new thread. Take, for instance, the thread that starts with my "A book that speaks to me." That should NOT start a thread. But it does because I gave it that Subject Line. But for that post to start a thread is just stupid. (yeah, that's me. insert your comments here) IF you were to read the post that I was replying to (I think that one was posted by Jerry, but I might be wrong), it would make more sense. Still might not be funny to ya, but it would at least make more sense.

I know, I know. Nobody cares. But that's been bugging me ever since I did it and I just wanted to get that off my chest. Thank you, I feel much better now. :-)

Alright, I know I should just let this go and not reply, but after biting my tongue all weekend, I've finally had enough.



Steve Packard and I have been best friends since 2nd grade. We e-mail each other virtually every day and have for as long as we've both had e-mail (I'm guessing that's close to 10 years now). Yeah, we're kind-of "in tune" with each other.



So, on Friday, I posted a message and Steve complimented me on it. Being in tune as we are, I expected that he would have something to say about it. It turned out to be something nice, so I acknowledged that. "Thanks and have a great weekend." No big deal.



The only problem was, I thought that Steve had e-mailed me his compliment. See, I have my Google account set up to e-mail whatever gets posted. And in the "From" field I see the name of the person who posted it. So when Steve's compliment came, it appeared to me to be an e-mail from Steve (just to me). Now, it would be reasonable to assume (I think) that if I hit "Reply" on a message that came from Steve that I would actually reply to Steve. But, this is the Google group thing that Jerry set up for us, so reason does not apply. No, when I hit reply, I actually posted my own message. So you all got to see my acknowledgment to Steve for his compliment. Big deal!!! I really couldn't care even if I tried.



But apparently Jerry took my "Thanks and have a great weekend" message as some kind of romantic love letter. I can only assume from this that either A.) Jerry has never had any experience with having a friend or B.) Jerry has never had any experience with having a romantic relationship. Either one is believable. And sad.
