As we approach the end of another remarkable year, we extend our heartfelt wishes for a joyful holiday season and a prosperous New Year.
This year has been a testament to the power of collaboration and community-driven initiatives. At Open Access India, we continue to strive for an equitable and inclusive scholarly ecosystem. We take pride in supporting platforms such as IndiaRxiv, the preprints repository for Indian researchers, and IndiaJOL, which provides a global platform for Indian journals. These initiatives represent our commitment to open science and the democratization of knowledge.
The Delhi Declaration on Open Access remains our guiding framework, advocating for the right to access, share, and reuse scholarly outputs. Together, we envision a future where all research is freely accessible, fostering innovation and collaboration without barriers.
This vision aligns closely with the principles of Diamond Open Access, where community-led publishing thrives without the burden of Article Processing Charges (APCs). We encourage everyone to support and work towards strengthening community-based publishing platforms, ensuring that the scholarly ecosystem remains free from the influence of for-profit entities.
We also urge the government and stakeholders to adopt and implement a National Open Access Policy, reinforcing the commitment to responsible research and open science. Such a policy will be instrumental in achieving universal access to knowledge, driving scientific progress, and benefiting society at large.
As we step into the new year, let us continue to advocate for ethical publishing practices, foster inclusivity, and support initiatives that prioritize "what is published" over "where it is published." Together, we can build a robust and sustainable future for Open Access in India and beyond.
