Dear list,

I'm looking for an ontology that describes our favourite example... scholarly communication.  However it must be able to say that a Journal has a collection of Issues which have collections of Articles, in order to create an Aggregation at each level.

Other than the Mesur ontology (http://www.mesur.org/schemas/2007-01/mesur/) I can't find any that model Issue as a class.  While I'm fine with using it, it seems a little incestuous!  If there are any others out in sem-web wilderspace, please let me know.

See especially the discussion of whole-part relationships throughout
section 5.3

For FRBR in RDFS/OWL, AFAIK, the most complete version is the work done
by Ian Davis and Richard Newman

Hi Pete,

The FRBR ontology doesn't explicitly say that an object is a journal/issue/volume/article/book review/whatever, which is what I'm looking for.

I'll keep it in mind though!

Perhaps BIBO, available at: http://bibliontology.com/ would be a better fit?

Sounds more like SWAP represented in RDF to me. There is a Type
Vocabulary.

On that note, is there any forum for working on unifying these
bibliographic/frbr ontologies for RDF, seems like disparate movements
going on in an area that could really stand to have a common space
for working out the kinks in. I imagine something like the LOD Cloud
(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Linking-Open-Data-diagram_2007-09.png)
for Bibliographic/FRBR/ORE ontology's... Specifically targeting
recommendations and best practices on how this stuff is worked with
or enmeshed into the SW/LOD realm.

Right. I've looked at bibo, swap, swetodblp, the bibtex one and a few others.  The main issue I've been having though is that none of them represent issues as objects.  The class which a journal is a collection of is always articles.

I do use this ontology to keep track of my bibliography, and I've been
quite happy with it so far (mainly due to the fact that it is
extremely straight-fw to map bibtex to it:-) ).
