Greetings everyone:

I just came across a data use ontology (DUO) developing in the genome-phenome archival community to prepare for automated flagging of certain data use conditions. You can read about that use case (https://ega-archive.org/data-use-conditions) and view the article describing the standard data use codes (https://journals.plos.org/plosgenetics/article?id=10.1371/journal.pgen.1005772).

In the next phase of the OAeBU project, we will create a data rulebook to guide data trust operations. To facilitate the sharing and use of usage data at scale in a way that is "as open as possible and as controlled as necessary", a standard way to describe data use limitations would be incredibly valuable.

What data use condition ontologies should the data trust consider? Do your colleagues working on data stewardship or compliance use any as a part of your operations?

Best regards,

Christina
