So what is every one doing to keep in shape in this cold weather?

I just invested in a pair of rollers and I doubt my living room will
ever look quite the same again....

What are rollers? Here's an example:

Well....I'm not as bad as this guy, but you get my point. I miss the
70 degree weather.

PS - If there is anyone in the campus area looking for a routine
lifting partner, shoot me a message. I plan on taking advantage of
the RPAC and it's array of torture devices atleast twice a week.

That didn't look fun at all! Glad I'm an ultra runner!!I just keep on
running...but encased in Gortex everything and cut mileage down about half.
I did pick up a stationary bike to do a little cross training while
watching dvds but it doesn't come close to being outside, does it?!!!!
So....why are we living in Ohio???????I forget!

I usually try to get out in the woods either via the mountain bike on trails, a cross bike on dirt roads or with some hiking shoes. For some reason, I always like to hike in the winter. Very peaceful. But more importantly, no poison ivy!

But this year I'm thinking about digging out my pain via a trail run or two. That will kick me back into shape quickly.

I always try to avoid living room workouts as much as possible. Ick.

We should have a get together/meet up or something one of these weekends. It would be nice to meet everyone and discuss vegan nutrition, training, etc. Maybe after the 1st when things slow down for everyone...

I agree, it is good timing for a potluck.  If we could all agree on a date I know a good place we could have it.  The SPORE Info shop.  I hear it is quick and easy to reserve a spot there, and they have a comfy couches lending to a social atmosphere.

I'm also really interested in taking part in a trail run or two.  Where do you usually go and what kind of distance/pace do you do?

That would be great...the SPORE has been on my list to visit for several months but just never have...mainly since I live in Thornville.  I actually don't run real trails too much in the winter because I have a tendency to get lost and don't have anyone to run with.  I stick to running in the country and bike trails (and get off those into the woods if possible like a large section of the Olentangy).  During race season I do portions of the 50 and 60k races all over Ohio but don't venture on those alone.  My long run then is usually 20 miles totalling around 70 a week but in winter I chop everything down to about half.

Andy,

Patrick and I were talking and were interested in suffering through
a winter trail run if you would be down to lead it. Think we could do
it for next weekend Jan. 17th or 18th?

Andy,

Speaking of Vegan nutrition, the Wellness Forum is having a free Vegan

Yony,
Dinner is at 6:30 at our office, 510 East Wilson Bridge Road, Worthington OH
43085(Our office sits behind Trump's Sport Bar).

Yes, Pam Popper will peak about medical myths and it is a fascinating
presentation. Let me know if you are interested in attending, and how
many, as reservations are required.

I would love to meet other organic atheletes!

I would love to attend, but my fiance has our only working four wheeled transporatation.  As for my two wheel method of transport, I get out of class at 6:15p on OSU campus and although I consider my self an athlete, would find that lengthy commute hard to make on time.  Anyone interested in attending who could give me a ride?  I have money for petrol....

Oh man. I'm in no shape to 'lead' a trail run. I haven't run in over a year and just started training/riding again this week after a 4 month 'vacation'. So yeah, I'd be a poor running partner...

Hey Andy, no worries! Hiking is beautiful in the winter too. Anyone interested in that? Or snowshoeing/cross-country skiing if there's ever enough snow on the ground? (I like skate skiing too, but don't know there'd be anything good nearby.)
I'll be back in town after Jan 18 or so....
Cheers,
-Terri
:-)

I'd love to meet up for some winter hiking for a few hours. I'm available most sundays or early saturday mornings.

Hi All OA -

Some of you might wish to link up with the Hike Ohio Meet Up group. They seem to do it
all over the greater central Ohio area. Columbus Metro Parks also has their Commit to
be Fit hiking  and running program for the Metro Parks. Hocking Hills, Tar Hollow, etc.
Highbanks (close by), are some great places...

Although Highbanks 'Pet Trail' (Coyote Run, 3.8 mile) is great for a no true hills run but it has near zip for
hill or nature viewing as the rest of Highbanks trails do. Also, if one trail is the wettest at Highbanks
Coyote will be with any rain and for the next day or two after... Mostly mud puddles or big or huge mud puddle
areas.

well, it looks like now is the time!

I've rented xc stuff from Aspen Ski on Old Henderson before. Good service and fair price.
