How is eveyone doing? Sorry I haven't posted in a couple weeks. Just
started my new job as well as Grad School...life was hectic there for
a few seconds, but routine is finally setting in.

Besides work/school I have been enjoying some great 50mile rides with
the OSU cycling club. They have been giving me some great pointers
and tips, and hopefully with a little hard work I'll be up for the
upcoming spring racing season. My only previous exposure to cycling
races were as part of a triathlon....but standard road racing is a
whole other ball game. It's gonna be a long and cold winter out there
on my bike, but I'm looking forward to it in that twisted way we all
do to winter training.

I've also found a plethora of veggie groups here in Columbus,
specifically at OSU. Our gym has been hosting Vegan cooking classes,
I attanded the 1st Veggie Club meeting of the school year, and the OSU
green fair was pretty cool too. Oh, by the way...I want to take a
moment to hype up the upcoming MFA Dinner on Tuesday Oct. 14th My
fiance Steph will be giving a lecture on Vegan Nutrition. I realize
you are all probably well versed on this topic, but as many as these
as I go to, there always seems to be some new concept that I was
unaware of...OSU Campus, University Hall, Room 0014

Lastly....Consider Biking, a local bike advocacy group will be hosting
a potluck at Goodale Park this coming Sunday Oct 12th at 1pm. Should
be a large turn-out and fun for the whole family. Hope to see you
guys there.

And feel free to post any veggie/athletic events you know of as
well....share the wealth of info ya'll.

Hey everybody,
Just want to let you all know about the Hilly Hundred Bike Tour. It's
Oct. 18-19 in Elletsville, IN - about 10 miles from Indiana
University. The ride is 50 miles each day (Sat. and Sun.) through the
rolling hills of southern Indiana. Yony and I will be going down to
ride it and meeting up with other friends there. We'll be camping out
Fri and Sat. night of that weekend. Anyone is welcome to drive
together and ride with us! Check it out for yourself at www.hillyhundred.org.

So the Hilly Hundred proved to be two days of phenominal riding. Just
check out the hills:

20.0 0.2 Niece #1 11.0%
20.5 0.2 Niece #2 18.0%
25.8 0.6 Neill Hill 14.0%
28.5 0.3 17.2%
32.5 1.2 New Hope Hill 6.6%
39.0 0.6 Cemetery Hill 14.0%
44.6 0.8 Water Tower Hill 17.0%

Route Mileage - Length of Hill - Name of Hill - Incline (Day 2)
-----------------------------------------------
3.8 0.3 Photo Hill 14.5%

May have to make this ride an anual trip, and hopefully next year
Organic Athlete can sport a booth with snacks other than fried chicken
and ice cream (though they did offer up some pb & j sandwiches for us
non-meat eaters).

WOW!
those are some steep hills. 23% is that even legal for a street? crazy.

You should check out the Columbus Fall Challenge also. Great weekend of riding.

1st I've heard of the Columbus Fall Challenge...though I am relatively new to town.  Just googled it and it looks like it was earlier this month, bummer.  I'll have to check it out next year...

So...after cross season ends, what comes next as far as cycling in C-Bus goes?

Trying to stay sane braving the crappy winters until march when road and mountain bike racing starts again. unless you're a college kid, don't they start racing in early February?

Yeah...I'm pretty sure you're right about the early start with
collegiate cycling season. I know Dan Newhart (OSU cycling veteran)
is on this list-serve, hopefully he can provide us with more info on
the start of the collegiate circuit. From what I understand we have
training all winter long.

Also, we just received the brochures, banner, and magazine hand-outs
from the OA office in Cali (that we'll have at the OA booth on Nov.
23rd). The materials look great. We also plan on setting up a laptop
and showing YouTube clips from other OA chapters around the country.
Lastly, we were thinking about making up some home-made vegan Gu to
hand out to those interested....good idea or bad idea? Any other
suggestions?

They sure do...generally the last weekend in Feb.  Last year there was a race in mid-Feb (frosty toes) - my toes were indeed frosty, as was everything else.
I remember one collegiate race I had to defrost my hubs - there was freezing fog that morning.  Awesome.

Yuppers -
The collegiate season schedule for '09 isn't up yet, but if it were, it would be here - www.mwccc.org.  They generally gets things finalized in early December.  Training starts a week after cross season for this guy.
