Hi Guys,

I'm looking to move some DNS to a different provider.

Requirements:

1. Name servers should be in NZ itself (this is for a site with purely
local traffic).

2. It has a decent zone editor (I do not want to edit templates or
whatever fluff, I just need to edit A/MX records etc straight-away,
I know what I'm doing).

3. Should allow me to set TTL.

4. Once I update a zone record, the changes are reflected on their
name servers straight-away, no waiting for hours for changes to
show up.

Referrals much appreciated!

Ignoring requirement 1 for a second... I highly recommend http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/ which I have been using since 2003. Meets the other 3 requirements, so if you can't find anything within NZ that is suitable then maybe consider them.

Sitehost have a not-awful DNS control panel. Can't recall if it has TTL setttings, and my impression is that updates are immediate (but it's DNS, only /etc/hosts really delivers instant updates).

In that case I would have gone with nettica... But I'm somewhat
reluctant to chose an overseas DNS provider for a high traffic purely
local content provider.

That's DNS propagation, that's different. I'm just looking for updates
to be reflected on the DNS nameservers itself immediately. Too many NZ
providers only update their name servers every few hours.

Going to have to mention Zonomi. Owned by Rimu, so you know it's good.
The one time I had an issue with them, opened a support ticket and had it fixed without an hour (and happened to be handled by the CEO ;)).
Also, it's free for the first domain, so feel free to play around with it and see if its what you like.

I find Openhost.co.nz very good for domain name management. Everything you mention is supported.

Their DNS management is either direct editing of DNS with no www hosting; or with www hosting which is managed through Plesk console.

Either way updates are quick and I have never had to wait more than 15-20 min for updates to flow through. Mind you when I know I have DNS changes to make I always dial down TTL days before hand to ensure prompt propogation.

Hi Berend,

Not sure who your current domain registrar is, but I find the DNS manager with 1stdomains fulfils all my requirements, and I believe it fits all yours.

They've recently added the ability to specify the TTL, and from experience I believe there zone refresh is either instant or quite frequent.

Thanks,
Nathan.
