This doesn't actually require the organisers (good on you all!) to do
anything, but I'd like to state, for the record, that no part of my
donation to the barcamp is going to Software Freedom Day - it's going
to the other things that the surplus is going to, or, if you prefer,
it was in the bit that was already spent.

This is because, while I strongly agree with the idea of the four
freedoms, and software freedom, I even more strongly believe that
copyleft (and other infectious licences) does violate them. Calling
copyleft "free" is the worst kind of newspeak. It imposes crippling
moral or legal burdens on organisations who wish to use, or contribute
to, open software. Avoiding unintentional infection by gnu-
contaminated code is a constant nightmare.


OK. Rant done.
I now return you to your welcome efforts to build and support NZ civil
society.

Thanks, Michael. Fair point - not everyone will agree with all the
causes going forward. For the record, your contribution was spent on
beer ;-)
