Hello fellow paddlers,
It's been a few chilly months since our last Newsletter, when I talked about how the ‘domestic’ Dragon Boat season builds up, and I hinted at how there are now more chances to race Trans-Tasman. Since then, IDBF have put on an awesome World Champs in Hungary - did anybody watch the streaming video on http://www.idbf.org/live/? Very cool...
Back to Newsletter #10, we share the experiences of kiwis who have taken their paddles off-shore for some epic adventures.
First up, NZ Champions HCWS share the drama of measuring up against our Australian counterparts at their ‘Nationals’.
And we hear from two Christchurch paddlers who added kiwi flavours to an international crew, taking a ‘Grand Tour of Italy’.
Read too about how NZDBA has been unashamedly 'borrowing' from the way the Australians have been developing the sport, re-using their learnings. NZDBA is looking at how our Race Rules compare to AusDBF and IDBF, making it clearer to anyone who paddles in New Zealand. Plus our Working Group has borrowed heavily from their work, to get some consistency and improvements in the level of Sweeping skills.
So What’s in this issue? - Kiwi Champs take on the Aussies - Boun giorno Italia - To Sweep or not to Sweep… - Happy Birthday Boobop Babes! - CanSurvive Team Turns 10!
And a reminder of our AGM this Saturday in Auckland.
See you on the water...
Warm regards
Noel Anderton (Chair)
