DRAFT SCHEDULE FOR
SATURDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER TO THURSDAY 1ST OCTOBER
Times (particularly of arrival)may vary; media please check with walkers
on the day or with Julia Stuart (see p.6).

(NB: By the end of Saturday all tributary Hikoi bar one (Wairarapa) have
joined the Highway One group)
[Highway One north: Overnight base Friday 25th: Scout Hall, Daniel St,
Bulls
Highway 2: Billeted at Ashurst.]
Saturday September 26th
Northern Hikoi Highway One: Gather for departure by 9 a.m.
Three groups:
1. Walk Bulls - Sanson
2. Sanson - Awahuri
3. starts Feilding - Awahuri - Newbury.
All three groups lunch Newbury, walk to Coronation Park -
Rangitikei/Tremaine Sts, arriving 3 p.m.
3.30 p.m. Walk down Rangitikei St to the Square.
Highway Two:
Leave Ashurst before 10 a.m.
12 noon Lunch at Whakaoranga
1 p.m. Leave Whakaoranga to walk to Memorial Park , arriving 3 p.m.
3 30 p.m. Main Street to the Square..
Massey University:
3 p.m. Assembly Registry
3.15 p.m. Walk around the ring road
3.30 p.m. Leave to Square

4.30 p.m. Rally in the Square
followed by billeting and accommodation arrangements

7.30 p.m. sharing of stories at St Michael's complex

11.30 a.m. arrive Forum, rally (Wesley Centre if wet)
12.30 leave for Grove Bridge, lunch at Grove Bridge

Morning tea: Opiki junction with Highway 57
12 noon gather at Shannon for lunch
1 p.m. leave Shannon for Levin via HW 57
2 p.m. joined by Catholic group at top of Laws Hill
Enter Levin from Arapaepae Rd
4 p.m. gather at Performing Arts Centre, Queen Street East
4.15 p.m. walk down Queen St, Cambridge Street, roundabout to St Mary's
Anglican Church Hall for refreshments 5.15
5.30 p.m. Church service and meeting
6.30 p.m. accommodation arrangements

Otaki: 7 a.m. Karakia
7 a.m. Depart Raukawa Marae: triple walking to Paraparaumu
12noon Lunch at Paraparaumu Anglican Church (opposite airport)
1 p.m. depart: Triple walking to Plimmerton
4 p.m. arrive Mana Esplanade (north side of Paremata Bridge)
Cross bridge and walk along Papakowhai Road to Porirua
Around Countdown to Te Rauparaha Park arr. 5.30 p.m.
Some will then walk on to Elsdon Camp, remainder transport or private
billets.

Wairarapa
Tues. Fit group, leave Featherston 8.30 to walk Pylon Track over
Rimutakas - 7 hour trip, rest will meet them at Te Marua
at 3.30 p.m.
Bus departs St John's Featherston, 2 p.m. Meet U. Hutt at Summit
for worship and handover., 2.15 p.m.

3 p.m. Bus to Te Marua, to link with Pylon Track group 3.30 p.m. then
walk to Upper Hutt.
6 p.m. Powhiri, Orongomae Marae, Upper Hutt
7.30 p.m. Public meeting at Orongomai

Wednesday 30 September
Northern Hikoi
Departure from Te Rauparaha Park for Johnsonville 0930-
0945 hrs
Route via Hagley Street, Titahi Bay Road - Kenepuru I)rive -
Main Road Tawa. Arrive for lunch at St. Christopher's
Anglican Church, Tawa (5.0km) 1130-1145 hrs
After lunch depart for Johnsonville 1230hrs

Route through Tawa - Middleton Road, arriving Alex Moore Park
for welcome (7.4km) 1500 hrs

Accommodation for the night of 30 September is in Johnsonville
(soccer pavilion, private billet, St John's Church, Catholic Church and
Guides) and if necessary also in Porirua.

Wairarapa/Hutt Valley
8.15 a.m. leave Rimutaka Baptist Church, Akatarawa Road
9 a.m. Orongomai Marae
9,10 a.m. St Joseph's Upper Hutt
10 am. Fergusson Drive Church of Christ, Trentham
10 a.m. Presbyterian Church, Silverstream

Stokes Valley churches gather at 11.15 a.m.
Join Hikoi Stokes Valley Road 11.40 a.m.

City
Vigil in Wellington Cathedral of St Paul from 7 p.m. all night and till
Hikoi reaches Parliament.


THURSDAY OCTOBER 1ST

City: There will be a Eucharist at 7am in Wellington Cathedral.

Hikoi North:
Walkers assemble in Dr Taylor Tce from 9am. Depart at 9.30am. Route is
down the Ngauranga Gorge - meeting up with Petone group and others from
buses coming in from different parts of NZ at bottom of the Gorge.
Then Hutt Road, Thordon Quay and into Wellington.
The South Island Hikoi will gather at the Ferry Terminal and proceed to
Thorndon Quay to merge with Hikoi north as they go past. Hikoi will meet
others at the Railway Station and then proceed to Parliament.

Wairapapa and Hutt Hikoi:
Assemble on Petone Foreshore. 8am Morning worship 8.30am assembly time
for walkers. Depart at 9am. Route is along Hutt Road - meeting up with
Hikoi North at bottom of Ngauranga Gorge. Then Hutt Road, Thordon Quay
and into Wellington.

Wellington
Some Wellingtonians will be going out to Johnsonville or Petone to join
start
there. For the rest: Feeder streams coming from different parts of the
city,
eg Miramar, Lyall Bay, Newtown, northern suburbs. Starting to converge
at
following 2 points: Queen Victoria statue in Cambridge Tce and Kelburn
Park (stay on footpaths ) assemble in Civic Square. Proceed by
traditional Wellington route (Mercer St, Willis St) down Lambton Quay.
Meet main Hikoi at Railway Station and then proceed to Parliament.
Church bells ringing.

Parliament
Starting time approx 12.30 pm: begins with powhiri. Hikoi moves into
Parliament grounds behind leaders. Liturgy approx 1/2 hour in length,
involving scripture readings, prayer, song and symbols. Presentation of
Hikoi demands to Parliament.

Following
After event at Parliament, people can go to a cluster of venues to rest
tired
feet and eat lunch. Many walkers will have food with them, and Wgton
churches are also bringing food to the lunch venues. The venues are:
(1)Loaves & Fishes (Anglican Cathedral) - Hill St; (2)Connolly Hall, (3)
Sacred Heart Primary school, (4)dining room of St Mary's Convent, (5) St
Mary's School (2-5 are in the Roman Catholic complex, reached from
Guildford St); (6) Wellington Girls' College Hall, Pipitea St.
There will be live music in the grounds of Sacred Heart Primary school
(St
Mary's School Hall if wet) and lots of sausage sizzles there.
